Quickstart

From nothing to a completed task in under two minutes.

1. Install

npm install -g @sknib/cli

Node 20 or newer. The package installs the nib command and a small wrapper; the agent engine comes from the upstream OpenCode package on first run.

2. Sign in

nib login

Nib prints a short code and opens sknib.com/device. Approve the code in the browser, and the CLI stores a token in ~/.config/nib/config.json with 0600 permissions. No key to copy, no password to paste.

3. Check your plan

nib status

This prints your plan, credits used and remaining, weekly and daily caps, the reset date, and the number of models available. Add --json to get the same data as machine-readable JSON.

4. Point the agent at Nib

nib init

This writes a nib provider block into ~/.config/opencode/opencode.json. Use --project to write opencode.json in the current repository instead, which is useful for team-specific defaults.

The key is written as an environment reference, never as a literal, so a committed project config cannot leak your credentials.

5. Run a task

nib run "fix the failing auth tests"

Nib reads the repository, proposes an approach, edits files, runs the tests, and repeats until the task passes or it needs a decision from you. Press Esc at any point to stop.

6. Use it elsewhere

Troubleshooting

nib: command not found

Your global npm bin directory is not on PATH. Run npm config get prefix and add its bin subdirectory to PATH.

not signed in

Run nib login. If you use NIB_API_KEY in CI, make sure it is exported in the same shell that runs the command.

Requests fail with 402

Your monthly credits are exhausted. Top up or upgrade at /pricing. The next reset date is shown by nib status.

The agent cannot find the opencode binary

Install it with npm install -g opencode-ai, or set NIB_OPENCODE_BIN to its absolute path.
